I, my father, and one of my father’s cousins had again been to the doctor’s room after a week.
Conversation between my father and doctor
Doctor: Hi Sir! How are you doing now?
Father: I felt good and fine until I used the course of medicines, which is prescribed by you. After the course has been completed, from the next day itself, there is discomfort again and I am suffering a lot, sir.
Doctor: Please be prepared for Surgery and make up your mind to it!
The doctor asked my father to wait outside and asked us to stay in the room.
Doctor: The reports in the tests confirm that your father is having malignant tumour (CANCER) and if you want, you can collect slides and blocks on which tests are performed (at the lab)
Me: I remained Silent BUT {Inside and In my mind} I was a bit shocked and felt nervous!! because I strongly believed that the test results will be negative, as he is a teetotaller and non-smoker.
Doctor: You are so young to visit a cancer hospital! I am sorry about that.
Me: Sir, Could you please tell me what stage it is? and is there a cure for it?
Doctor: I am sorry! I can’t help you with it! Those questions should be answered by an Oncologist.
Me: Could you please refer us to any cancer hospital or any doctor?
Doctor : [Hospital Name] It is one of the best cancer hospitals in India.
Me: Ok sir! Thank you, sir
We went to the canteen in that hospital and there my father’s cousins started crying. I got scared that my father would know about it if he saw his brother crying.
My father went to his office and I came back home, in the evening, when my father was back home from the office, he asked me to take him outside on the bike. We went outside and he asked me to stop the bike at some peaceful place, then my father asked me — “What did the doctor say ?”. I didn’t understand what to say, then I told him what the doctor told me, ‘he found cancerous cells while performing an endoscopy and he wanted to confirm it by performing tests on them. So, the test results turned out to be positive. I also told my father that there is nothing to worry about, as we don’t know about the stage of it and the doctor predicts that it might be in the initial stages’.
I also told my brother, uncle, and aunt about it and we were thinking about the next steps …….
